The Association of Doctoral Organisations in Norway (SiN) is a free and politically independent organization. SiN serves as an umbrella organization for interest groups representing doctoral candidates and early-career researchers (such as postdoctoral fellows) at Norwegian higher education institutions. Its primary goal is to safeguard the academic rights of PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers.
SiN functions as a national network that promotes contact, collaboration, and the exchange of experiences and best practices among its member organizations. In addition, SiN represents the collective voice of its members on political and policy issues related to higher education, research, and other matters of relevance to doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers.
SiN aims to be a key national actor in all matters concerning doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers in Norway. Its main areas of focus include mental health, career development both within and beyond academia, open science, mobility, and working conditions for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers.
A new board is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. The board is responsible for SiN’s day-to-day activities and works closely with its member organizations.
SiN was officially founded in Oslo on January 26, 2003. Today, the organization has 13 local member organizations and represents approximately 90% of all PhD candidates in Norway.
SiN is a member of the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers (EURODOC)
