E-course for Newcomers in Norway

A free, self-paced e-course titled “Moving to Norway – Orientation for International Workers” has been developed by Rana Utvikling, the Oslo Regional Alliance, and the IOM – UN Migration Agency. It is a practical and accessible resource for newcomers to Norway, including early career researchers, as well as anyone planning to relocate.

The course provides reliable guidance on everyday life, cultural expectations, public services, and working conditions. Its six modules cover key topics such as residency and registration, social norms, housing and transportation, labour rights, taxation, and healthcare. By bringing essential information together in one place, the course helps newcomers feel more prepared and supports smoother integration. It can also assist employers, especially higher education institutions, in improving recruitment and onboarding for international staff.

For universities and research institutions, this course is a particularly valuable resource for early career researchers, helping them settle more easily and thrive in Norway’s academic environment.
